Using and making maps is a signature pedagogy in geography. Digital mapping software from platforms such as Digimap for Schools, Google Earth and the Ordnance Survey provide us with a range of wonderful tools to help embed geographical knowledge, skills and understanding. However, this is one area recognised by Ofsted (2021) where expertise is not as well developed as it could be. This session will explain and model how digital maps can support your geography teaching and learning with interactive activities for you to try out too.
This session will help you to:
· Feel more confident in using digital mapping programmes to teach outstanding geography
· Develop practical activities for class that will enhance pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding in geography
· Feel more confident in talking about your geography curriculum to Ofsted.
